The amount of pictures ive seen of kids playing in the flooding waters And the amount of parentts saying that they have been letting there kids go to flooded areas just to play they must be brain dead, The water is full of bloody sewage and alsorts no body knows whats floating around under the surface,

Whats your opinion on this matter ??

Ill add a poll but please leave a comment if you vote

They might get down a drain too.
Unless you have to who wants to wade in cold muddy water anyway.

Depends on the flood waters. In the street where I live it was purely rain water that couldn't get away, so yes I let little legs out to play in it, in front of the house. It is a cul-de-sac so no torrents either.

But I've not voted because if it was a different situation with sewage and torrents then there is no way she would be let out of the house.

Saw a story the last time it flooded about ten days ago, and a woman was complaining that the council hadn't cleared up a small flooded area under a bridge or something. She said something along the lines of 'my kids are going to get blah blah blah some sort of illness, if they don't come and clear it up'... and I'm sat there thinking why don't you tell them to get out and STFU? :|

what dosen't suprise me is the amount pictures taken from inside of motor vehicles i no youv'e got your engine turned off, like f*ck, can't say anything about the kids swimming in the flood water we used to swim in lecey barmstone drain and the now called marina, never caught out apart from good clip from me mam if she caught us, by the way she give my mates a kick up the arse as well no pc sh*t in those days.

We have been out and about today and i just couldn't believe the ADULTS taking the kids out in their wellies for a paddle like they were at the seaside or something.Don't they realise that people have lost lots in these floods just the stress would be enough but to see the family going out for a paddle while your waiting for your ground floor to be pumped well i wouldn't have been happy but hey thats just my opinion.

Before everyone jumps on the band wagon, have you done any kind of research into the way diseases are caught from flood water etc ?

Me neither.

I don't much like the thought of moving around in water mixed with sewerage but from what i've been told it would have to be alot more contaminated to pose a serious health risk.

How many people used to swim in the sea when it was being pumped out just off the coast years ago? Did they all die or have serious illnesses?

26 Jun 2007, 23:26

I've not done much research, but I've always been told that if you have cut or damaged skin, then you could get infected, but otherwise, there shouldn't be a problem.

The amount of people that I've seen walk barefoot to their cars, holding a pair of shoes has been unbelievable though.

26 Jun 2007, 23:45

It matters not if you get infected.
Would you paddle in your loo after a dump?

Yes you can get infections from sewerage. Just like you can get worms from dirt under your nails :( Kids always stick their fingers in their mouths! :hand:
From a distant memory i believe if your place of work had a back up in the loo system you are not allowed to be in the building until it is professionally cleared.

So i voted brain dead  after all look at what happened to that poor young lad who died.

Could is the word in that sentence, like could get hit by a bus. As has been said many times before, life is a series of risks sometimes you get bit and others you come away unscathed. Let them have their fun and don't complain, otherwise when they complain to you about bikes being dangerous don't moan at them because your doing just the same now.

Like I said before, I personally avoid it as best I can but that is entirely my choice.

I had to wade thru knee deep areas to get home and after a while I did find myself grinning and stomping about a bit too much.
It was mostly teens and students I saw playing in it (one with a canoe down Newland ave  )
Majority were just making the most of a crappy situation, How often have you canoed down your street?

tis not much different to allowing your kids to swim in our wonderful coastal waters around england ..
but i gave my middle lad a rollocking for playing in the water that was lapping round the front door last week ..
havent been here since sund so not seen em playing in the floodwaters cos mums been looking after them ..

i dont take the kids to swim in the sea anymore cos we all came down with something nasty after we last went in the sea ..
but no i wont be allowing my kids to play in the water from the drains either .

27 Jun 2007, 17:59

I dont even let the kids play in the sea cos i know where all our turds go
